A popular and effective modification the the E46’s S54 involves changing the OEM intake manifold for the likes of a “CSL-style” version. Not only does this increase the overall efficiency of the engine, it also produces a sublime sound from the intake note via the large intake “mouth” at the front of the manifold.
Unfortunately, due to this design that same intake also breathes in the ambient air within the engine bay. This air is incredibly hot and not conducive to producing power. In order to fix this, a ducting solution is required. However the current solutions on the market are either expensive or are inadequate in terms of providing the intake with enough fresh air.
Enter, the headlight duct. Drawing from motorsports design practices where headlights are often times sacrificed in the name of performance, a duct starting at a headlight blank to the CSL intake manifold provides the best solution.
The Rapid Designs E46 CSL Headlight Duct is specifically designed to work with the Turner Motorsport CSL Style Intake Kit and a headlight blank of the customer’s choosing (Rapid Designs E46 M3 headlight blank is in the works!). By connecting the intake to the headlight blank across a total of 3 parts, the intake path is simplified, kept light weight, and easy to install/remove when needed.
